To my patients: I will be returning to work on a limited schedule beginning 12/16. Established patients only at this time.
To everyone: Please,
No sympathetic looks
No condolences, etc.
These will only remind me of his death: the pain he was in, the convolutions of the medical bureaucracy, events you don’t know about & that I don’t need to be reminded of.
Those who we consider to be our family helped us greatly in that time and we were grateful and felt our circle was complete. There was a public memorial for everybody else who felt a need to be healed, to speak their hearts. That was the time & place for that, not your appointment time.
The future is now and I am moving into it. Please respect this. If you are unable to do this, I will not be able to treat you.
Please do not accost me on the street, in a store, etc to ask how I am, give me a hug, tell me how sorry you are. Do not yell at me from across a crowded room to ask how I’m doing (yes, somebody did that and that is unspeakably rude and insensitive).
